Welcome to GIJP's new eNewsletter!

By Eric Phelps
Director

Welcome to GIJP's new eNewsletter! Our new format will incorporate all of our service offerings: Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Governance, Technology, Legacy, Matching Grants, and our Conference. For brevity's sake, topics will rotate each month. This month's eNewsletter focuses mainly on Governance.

This eNewsletter is also being sent to a far larger audience - we believe that many of our participating organizations' staff and board members can benefit from this service.

Please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions for improving the eNewsletter and any of our other services.

B'Shalom,

Eric

Shoot for the Moon

By Eric Phelps
Director

The summer of 2009 was an historic one for all of us. It was a time when we examined how to deal with highly changing conditions, worked together in small teams of leaders to solve complex problems and stayed on mission to achieve something truly remarkable. Yes, that's right - this summer was the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar mission which put the first humans on the moon.

It turns out that I awoke at URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp on the morning of July 20, 2009 - 40 years after the historic moon landing. Though the camp founders may not have viewed themselves as "heroes" or "history makers," they too had planted a flag in unchartered territory - only this one was staked in Utica, Mississippi. Technology - Board Management Tools

Nonprofit Boards often face the difficult task of managing the efforts and talents of many geographically dispersed members. Just finding a time that each person can meet can be a challenge, never mind sharing documentation such as Board Minutes and Agendas, efficiently collaborating on projects, or even putting a face to each name on the Board roster. We have reviewed a number of technology tools that can help Boards run more efficiently and effectively. These tools include Document Sharing Tools like Google Docs, Web Conferencing tools like GoToMeeting, Board Management Portals like BoardEffect and Google Groups, and Meeting Scheduling tools like MeetingWizard, among others. Click here to find our brief reviews of these tools.
