About Us : About the Institute

“Jewish overnight camping is incredibly important,” says Harold Grinspoon, philanthropist and founder of the Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy. “We’re just beginning to realize that it’s about more than fun and friendship. It’s one of the best resources to ensure Jewish identity and Jewish continuity. The sad thing is that Jewish camping is grossly under-funded.”

With a vision of how Jewish nonprofit camping can enrich Jewish life and ensure continuity, Grinspoon launched his Institute for Jewish Philanthropy in January 2004. The Institute has already influenced dramatic improvement in the way camps organize their boards and committees, conduct strategic planning and raise money.

Over 70 camps and day schools receive some or all of the following services:

  • Consulting from top-notch professionals in board development, strategic planning and fundraising

  • Conferences for camp professionals and lay leaders on topics of high interest

  • Technology Software and training to facilitate outreach to alumni groups and improve fundraising effectiveness
  • Coaching for professional and lay leaders

  • Matching grant programs:  Meet Your Match, Create Your Match, and Raise Your Match are helping eligible camps achieve their goals for capital and other improvements.

  • Camp Legacy Program:  This pilot program provides expert training, coaching and support for all aspects of fundraising to secure legacy gifts.
